Roger Federer is back on top of his game

By Marc DesRosiers

Swiss tennis player Roger Federer defeated Serbian Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon semi-final.

The 30-year-old tactician remained calm as Djokovic tried to set the pace of the match, taking the second set in Friday’s semi-final won at 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 . Federer earned the only break of the first set to take the lead, and Djokovic returned the favor in the second set to even the score. Both players fought hard but Federer got the key points when they mattered in the third set. Federer then asserted himself in the fourth set while Djokovic seemed to lose energy.

Federer is now one step away from tying Pete Sampras’ Wimbledon record, the most in the modern era. With a win against Andy Murray in the final on Sunday, Federer is poised to to take the Wimbledon title for the seventh time and go back to the top of the rankings, a position he last held in May 2010. This would also award him a 17th career Grand Slam title.
