Barr Brothers end day one of Jazzfest on a high note
By MIng Wu
Headlining the OLG Stage on the first night of Ottawa Jazz Festival was Montreal’s The Barr Brothers, consisting of brothers Andrew (Drums) and Brad Barr (Vocals & Guitar) with Sarah Page on Harp and Andres Vial on keys and bass.
There was a good turnout for the band’s 11:15pm slot where they played songs from the album “The Barr Brothers”, which is longlisted for this year’s Polaris Music Prize. The music was a mix of indie folk and experimental, with Brad creating ambient and strange sounds by pulling the strings from his guitar  while Andy Vial incorporated a wheel to his percussions to produce a unique and wonderful set.
It was a perfect ending for the first day of this year’s Ottawa Jazzfest…
