The Barrie Colts destroy the Ottawa 67s – December 8th, 2013

The Ottawa 67s took on the OHL’s Eastern division 4th ranked Barrie Colt in a Sunday afternoon game at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.

The Colts got things started with a goal less than 3 minutes in, scored by Tyson Fawcett (13) with the assist given to Kevin Leblanc (12) and Justin Scott (17).

Less than 5 minutes later, the Colts capitalized on a drive to the net by Andrew Mangiapane (26) who passed the puck to Andreas Athanasiou (22) for a second Barrie goal. Meanwhile, the 67s only managed two shots on goal… The next shot however did hit the mark. The goal scored by Troy Henley (3) at 9:58 was his first CHL goal; a fine way to kick things off, as a flurry of Teddy Bears made their way to the ice surface. The Teddy Bear toss is an annual event held in conjunction with the Salvation Army to help ensure that every child has a cuddly friend this holiday season.

With 3 minutes remaining in the first period, Aaron  Ekblad (5) scores a third goal for the Colts with the assist going to Mitchell Theoret (23) and Andres Athanasiou (22).

Halfway through the game, the shot on goals were 28 for the Colts, compared to a total of 8 for the 67s.

A series of penalties in the second period left the 67s in a defensive position, limiting their ability to move out of their zone. They managed to kill them off without falling behind further, but the 3-1 deficit is a long one to recover from. Luckily, a tip from Tyler Hill (12) brought the 67s back in the running.

Mitchell Theoret (23) of the Colts was able to capitalize on a rebound to score less than 1 minute in the third.

The Colts sealed the game with a fifth goal scored by Eric Bradford (18) with only 6 minutes left in the game, which was followed by yet another less than one minute after by Andrew Mangiapane (26).

The Colts were unrelenting, scoring a 7th goal with less than a minute left in the game. And so it ended…
