On Saturday, Scotiabank Place was host of the famous Monster Truck Spectacular; an action packed evening of Motorcross Freestyle jumping, lawnmower racing, stunt street bikes and of course the high flying monster trucks.

The evening began with an eerie silence and a complete blackout, but one turn of a key changed the mood very quickly as the deafining sound of 1500hp shook the building and put smiles on the faces of both young and old fan’s alike. The show kicked off with high powered 16000rpm street stunt bikes, driven by Erick Meslier & Felix Famelart, showcasing spectacular street bike tricks.

The FMX Freestyle team were flying high and displaying tremendous skill as they jumped from ramp to ramp nearly performing stunts, nearly clipping the new Scotia Bank LED screen in the process. The Freestyle FMX team finished with an extremely difficult back flip and iffy landing.

Next came the lawn mower races where drivers pushed their high powered machines to the limit in what was at times a very close race that included high speed collisions.

The highlight of the night was the the monster truck freestyle that included legendary names such as Ice Cream Man, Crushstation, Brutus, Avenger, and Bounty Hunter. Crushstation driven by Greg Wicherbach was the first truck to take flight in what was to be a spectacular landing leading to an accidental rollover that was felt throughout the stands. Crews worked quickly to rescue the driver as gasoline spewed from the engine bay, with Greg Wicherbach still buckled inside.  Wichenbach eventually emerged from the rolled Monster truck unphased and ready to continue the show. The main event included all trucks in a thrilling side by side car jumping final event.

Driver Ben Winslow of Bounty Hunter emerged victorious in a photo finish race.
