Montreal Fashion Week – Day 4

BRIT WACHER/IMPAIR/MARILYNE BARIL, this trio of new designers started off MFW D4 in fine fashion, Brit Wacher’s SS14 collection was all black and white long flowing dresses and her black Kimono coat was definitely a hit. Impair’s show was all about woman’s work wear with blazers and tailored pants some in a soft floral pattern. Marilyne Baril had a refreshing warm summer feel with orange hats, pants and tops. Most pieces had a touch of orange to it, an orange hat with cream jacket and blue pants, each models nails were orange as well.

CAROLINE CONSTAS a Montrealer now based in New York chose MFW 25 to show her first fashion show ever. Her inspiration came from a mosaic she saw in her travels in Greece as a child. Her collection was young and feminine featuring sheer shirts, skirts and an avian print outfit. The show had an elegant Parisian feel to it.

LARUELLE at 21 yrs old and only doing his second collection, Xavier Laruelle stands out, his minimalist creations of monochromatic colour palettes with the sleek straight cuts of the outfits inspired by his love of the movie Blade Runner. The models all had long straight cut hair and wore plexiglass tubular necklaces and had shimmering crystallized eye make up which added to the futuristic look.

EVE GRAVEL’s SS14 collection was the most popular show at fashion week, it was so crowded that not a standing room space was left open. Aztec prints on prints were the main theme, tribal inspired pink dresses followed with all the models wearing neon glowing bracelets and big yellow earrings, Gravel also featured a shredded jean look as a play on the distressed jean look.

TRAVIS TADDEO chose not to have a runway show, but staged an installation of his urban wear, groups of 2-3 models sat on staircases on the runway and it took awhile for the spectators to realize that there wasn’t going to be a show, everyone milled around the urban sportswear models and took photos, the models took photos of the crowd with their iphones, there was no music, just the sound of the crowd checking out Taddeo’s clean and fresh ready to wear line. Some media called it a very bold move.

MARTIN LIM closed out MFW with an ocean inspired Medusa tale. Jellyfish prints were everywhere, black and white flowing outfits, many striped variations and towards the end more splashes of colour culminating with the crowd favourite a long red flowing outfit with the medusa print on it.
